Sanctuary, to me, is peace.
A place where I feel safe.
Sometimes a person.
Sometimes the little things.
It’s not just a place, a person, or a thing; it’s a feeling.
A kind of home within us.
“Sanctuary” is about being that for someone else.
Not perfect. Not performative. Just present.
A space of safety, unconditional love, and peace.
A quiet kind of strength.
A love that is shown, not said.
A reminder that even in uncertain moments,
there is still something, or someone, that can bring you back to stillness.
Sanctuary isn’t just somewhere we go.
It’s something we can be for one another.

THE LYRICS
Tell me how you’re feeling
Let me be your light
You don’t have to do it all alone
I was only calling
Checking in on you
I will be the rock, the one to protect you
Here I am, take my hand
Trust in me
I will be your one and only sanctuary
Sanctuary
When the night gets colder
And the silence feels too loud
I’ll be the voice that guides you through the noise
Even when you’re breaking
And all your strength is gone
Lean on me, and I will carry you along
Here I am, take my hand
Trust in me
I will be your one and only sanctuary
Sanctuary

THE ARTWORK

THE ARTIST
Roanna Tella is a multidisciplinary artist whose practice explores the body as both form and structure, moving fluidly between figuration and abstraction. Her work leans into warmth and emotional depth, using the human figure as a space for reflection and transformation.
For Sanctuary, the piece was developed to evoke a sense of warmth and grounded stillness. The main figure, the comforting hand, and the surrounding clouds were treated as one continuous environment, allowing the atmosphere to feel enveloping and protective, and to resonate with the emotional tone of the music.

INSIDE SANCTUARY
with Carl Pemberton
A REFLECTION ON THE WORK.
How Sanctuary was birthed, and what it came to mean through the process.
SANCTUARY EXISTS AS A UNIFIED BODY OF WORK.
It unfolds across three additional interconnected forms,
each exploring what it means to support, to be present,
and to create a sense of safety for another.
The Canvas (The Artwork's Journey)
A visual interpretation of Sanctuary;
capturing stillness, presence, and the quiet weight of being held.
Together (Choral Rendition)
A choral expression of the work;
where layered voices reflect collective care, shared emotion, and human connection.
Fabrics (A Collective Experience)
A textile work that begins with sound and is completed through its movement between people.
Each piece is received and passed on as a gesture of care, forming a quiet expression of collective presence and connection.
Collectively, these embody Sanctuary as a shared experience.
